Joint petition calling on development banks to respect human rights in their investments around the world and ensure their activities are not putting human rights defenders at risk.

In the face of rapidly shrinking civil society space and growing attacks on human rights and environmental defenders, over 150 development, human rights, and environment groups have signed a joint petition calling on development banks to respect human rights in their investments around the world and ensure their activities are not putting human rights defenders at risk.

ECNL is one of the signatories of the statement on the responsibility of International Financial Institutions (IFI) to ensure meaningful and effective participation. The signatories to the petition call on financial institutions “to actively support the realization of rights to freedom of expression, assembly, and association, and related human rights, including economic, social and cultural rights in all their activities.”
