Good Governance and Accountability in the Nonprofit Sector in the Visegrad Countries

In cooperation with Transparency International and the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe, the European Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ECNL) hosted a meeting to focus on Good Governance and Accountability in the Nonprofit Sector in the Visegrad Countries, on December 2-4, 2004, Budapest, Hungary. The workshop aimed to develop a common understanding regarding the governance needs of non-governmental organizations among key nonprofit sector leaders in the Visegrad countries. Its objectives were to explore the common problems and propose joint solutions to improve the transparency and accountability of NGOs in the long term. We aimed to convene a group of participants who are ready to address this theme in their countries, and who have the willingness and potential for taking action, including e.g. NGO resource and support centers whose mission entails a responsibility towards ensuring transparent and accountable operation of NGOs in their countries.
