ECNL, in cooperation with the CEE Working Group on NGO Governance and the Trust for Civil Society in CEE, has published the A Handbook of NGO Governance, a groundbreaking publication to address the challenges in good governance facing NGOs in this region.
Drawing from the experiences of NGOs in Central and Eastern Europe, A HANDBOOK OF NGO GOVERNANCE sets forth the basic principles and practices of nonprofit governance.
The Handbook is full of examples and case studies of NGOs from throughout Central and Eastern Europe. It offers a conceptual framework for governance in your organization, as well as tools and practical advice for helping to strengthen the work of your board. The author of the Handbook is Marilyn Wyatt, mwyatt@earthlink.net. Please contact Ms. Wyatt if you are interested to translate the publication to another language.
At the moment, the handbook is available in 12 languages in addition to English. Spanish edition is likely to follow in 2010.

Just Released! UNV Report: Laws and Policies Affecting Volunteerism Since 2001 UN Volunteers just published a global research study on trends and lessons in the development of supportive volunteerism policies and legislation developed by ICNL and ECNL. An overall review was conducted in 7 regions, complemented by country-specific case studies. The study analyzes considerations in drafting and implementing volunteerism laws and policies, and highlights the need to tailor them to specific local, national, and regional contexts.
Since the International Year of Volunteers (IYV) in 2001, governments, the UN system, civil society partners, and other stakeholders have increasingly recognized that volunteerism makes significant contributions to peace and development.
