UN Special Rapporteur publishes position paper on international human rights law considerations for regulating new financial technologies.

ECNL welcomes the report of the United Nations Special Rapporteur (UNSR) on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism on International Human Rights Law Considerations for Counter-Terrorism Financing (CFT) Regulation of Crowdfunding, Virtual Assets and New Payment Technologies. We are proud to have provided input to the paper.

As regulatory and risk responses to the digital and tech-related CFT issues increase, this report is focusing on how state responses take into account the international human rights law and international humanitarian law when regulating. It also discusses crucial issues of potential human rights consequences as well as the impacts CFT regulatory responses to new payment technologies may have on civil society and civic space.
