Ministry of Justice takes over work on Nonprofit Codex in Slovakia

The Codex aims to re-define the legal forms of NGOs in Slovakia.

In Slovakia, after more than a year of intense consultations, discussions and debates within the NGO sector on the 'Nonprofit Codex', an ambitious piece of legislation, the Ministry of Justice will now take over work on the draft from the NGO-Government Council. The Codex aims, among others, to re-define the legal forms of NGOs in Slovakia and introduce new regulations regarding fundraising, sponsorship and volunteering. Critics of the draft argue that there is no real need to change the existing legal forms, an action that would require the re-registration of about 20,000 NGOs in Slovakia.
