The Comparative Analysis of European Policies and Practices of NGO-Government Cooperation, written by Nilda Bullain and Radost Toftisova of ECNL was published in ICNL's International Journal of Not-for-Profit Law. This study was produced as part of ECNL's project on Elaboration of Civil Society Development Strategy in Latvia. The paper offers an analysis of policies and practices regarding NGO-Government cooperation in current EU member states, accession countries, and other Central and Eastern European countries. The study provides a comparative overview of three areas considered significant to the development of stronger NGO-government relations:
- Policy documents and institutional mechanisms within government to facilitate civil society in different countries (best examples in Europe);
- Government funding mechanisms at the national level and the local level for NGOs and public initiatives;
- Government policies in Eastern Europe to involve NGOs in the EU accession processes.
