Over 70 local and international CSOs now have the opportunity to reach out to new members and demonstrate their work through exhibitions, one-to-one discussions, interactive displays and videos in the 1st International Civil Society Fair, “OPEN VOICES – ACTIVE CITIZENS” hosted by UNDP’s initiative Action for Cooperation and Trust, on the 3rd – 5th May 2007, in the Ledra Palace area.

This 3 day event of civic participation and celebration including workshops, panels, and live music performances is open to both CSOs and the public and is expected to attract over 1,500 people. The aim of the Fair is to address issues such as corporate social responsibility, resource mobilisation, networking and volunteering by raising the levels of active participation in civil society through the strengthening and formation of local and international partnerships and networks.

The Fair will provide the space for Cypriot CSOs to showcase their work and network with local and international organizations gaining access to networks, information, ideas and experiences, as well as to attract new volunteers. Special guests including the Commissioner for Human Rights from the Council of Europe, members and representatives of CIVICUS, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme and a host of international civil society experts and organisations will attend the fair.

“OPEN VOICES – ACTIVE CITIZENS” will take place alongside an International Civil Society Symposium, where local and international experts will share their work and encourage dialogue around the findings of the CIVICUS Civil Society Index on the nature of civil society in Cyprus which was completed last year, led by the Management Centre in collaboration with Intercollege. ECNL will take part and deliver presentations at this event.
