Third workshop: See you in court? Turning investigations into legal impact - and fighting SLAPPs

Date and time:  27 November 2025, 14:00-15:15 CET

Topic: The third workshop of the Civic Journalism Coalition webinar series takes us to court! In this session, we will examine both sides of the litigation coin. First, we will look at how civil society and journalists can turn their investigations - and the evidence they uncover - into strong legal cases. Then, we will shift focus to Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs), exploring strategies to counter how powerful actors misuse the judicial system to silence activists and journalists.

Facilitators:

  • Tiphaine Beau de Loménie, Advocacy and Litigation Manager – Civic Space at Sherpa
  • Francesca Fanucci, Senior Legal Advisor at ECNL

Register here until 26 November!

Fourth workshop: Making collaboration work: Best practices for civil society and journalists

Date and time: 15 December 2025, 15:30 - 17:00 CET

Topic: The fourth – and final - workshop of the Civic Journalism Coalition will take stock of lessons learned over the last year since the launch of the coalition, and develop key principles and best practices for meaningful collaboration between civil society and journalists.

Disclose, the leading French investigative outlet and Coalition member, will kickstart the discussion with a presentation of their guide for impactful journalism, sharing tips on how journalists can turn their investigations into real-world impact, including by working with civil society.

In the second part of the workshop, we will discuss best practices for collaboration, to be published by the Coalition in January, covering practical recommendations across 5 phases of collaboration: shaping the topic, dividing the roles, setting the objectives, agreeing on the communications output, and including affected communities.

Facilitators:

  • Pierre Leibovici, Journalist at Disclose
  • Ariadne Papagapitos, Impact Director at Lighthouse Reports
  • Aljosa Ajanovic Andelic, Policy Advisor EDRi

Register here until 14 December!

The Civic Journalism Coalition is an informal platform for coordination and collaboration – if you wish to join our mailing list to stay informed or join the coalition, please reach out to [email protected]! The workshops are open to participation to anyone from civil society or journalism interested in exploring how these two groups can work together, without the commitment to join the coalition.
