Two-day seminar for municipality officials in Sarajevo

04-01-2007
Since 2004 thirty municipalities in BiH have signed local compacts, which define principles of collaboration with NGOs and introduce transparent mechanism of NGOs public financing at a municipality level.

On December 13-14, 2006, in collaboration with the Civil Society Promotion Center (CSPC) from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), ECNL hosted a two-day seminar for municipality officials on the implementation of local compacts. Significantly, since the inception of project in 2004, thirty municipalities in BiH have signed local compacts, which define principles of collaboration with NGOs and introduce transparent mechanism of NGOs public financing at a municipality level.

A number of other municipalities in BiH have expressed interests to follow suit. The seminar discussed best practices and difficulties in the implementation of compacts. To summarize conclusions and ensure fair and consistent implementation of compacts, CSPC and ECNL will be publishing a client-friendly guideline on the implementation of compacts.

The seminar was conducted under the project: Sustainable Development of Nonprofit Sector in BiH through Partnership with Government and Business Sector, which is funded by USAID BiH.
