Discussion on research concerning CSO legal framework issues in Lithuania

23-04-2008
The research addresses a wide range of legal framework and practical issues affecting the sustainability of CSOs in Lithuania, starting from the concept, public benefit status and framework issues such as internal governance and registration.

On April 22 representatives from Lithuanian CSOs, government officials and experts met in Vilnius to discuss the results from the research on the legal framework affecting CSOs and agree on steps and recommendations for reform.

The event was organized by the NGO Law Institute, under a project “Improvement of NGO legislation in Lithuania“ which aims to assess Lithuanian NGO legislation and create guidelines for further legislative changes by using the best existing practices in the other countries. ECNL provides assistance to the experts team in conceptualizing and defining the scope of reform, guides the group in reviewing existing legislation, conducting needs assessment, researching the identified issues and proposing recommendations and facilitates working group meetings. The project is supported by the Baltic-American Partnership Project and aims to complete its activities by the summer of 2008.
