Overview of the different types of selected self-regulation models introduced at the European and international level.

This paper discusses reasons for adoption of self-regulations; types of self-regulatory initiatives and issues for consideration when designing a tailor-made self-regulation; compliance and enforcement mechanisms for implementation; examples of the European and regional/international self-regulatory models, with the analysis of the potential benefits and challenges of each model; and provides conclusions extracted from the examples.

Self-regulatory initiatives are adopted by CSOs with the aim to establish and agree on well-defined set of common standards that will have positive impact on the organization’s accountability and effectiveness both internally and externally. They are driven by the shared will to cooperate on a voluntary basis to achieve better results in CSOs’ everyday operation and compelled by the common interest/goal of the scheme's members.

The paper is also available in Russian and Belarusian.
