The European NPO Coalition on FATF, spearheaded by ECNL and its partners, EFC and HSC was invited by the European Commission (EC) DG JUST to provide input to the process risk assessment of money laundering and terrorist financing affecting the internal market and relating to cross-border activities, which the EC is currently conducting.
ECNL and representatives of the NPO sector participated at a European consultation event in Brussels on February 29, 2016 to present sector-specific information. Participant emphasized the fact that while actual NPO abuse cases are rare and perceived risks are low, NPOs have to face the unintended consequences of the severe and increased restrictions.
Based on the findings of this supranational risk assessment, the EC will make recommendations to Member States on the measures suitable for addressing the identified risks.
