Since 2001, more than 140 governments around the world have adopted counter-terrorism legislation which can have damaging impact to CSOs.
CSOs can take steps to push back when they experience abuse or overregulation caused by counter-terrorism or anti-money laundering legislation.
CSOs can raise this issue with:
- The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Counter-terrorism;
- The FATF and its regional body;
- Regional Human Rights Mechanisms.
