Forum on volunteering in Macedonia

02-11-2006
The Forum aimed to encourage broad public discussion in order to asses the needs, opportunities and challenges for volunteering in Macedonia, as well as to discuss the conceptual and legal issues that affect volunteering.

ECNL and the Center for Institutional Development (CIRa) co-organized a one day forum on "Volunteering in Macedonia: Practices and Legal Issues" on November 2, 2006 in Macedonia. The participants had the opportunity to learn about the experience of the European countries and the one of the Hungarian NGOs in regulating volunteering. Participants from NGOs, government representatives, public institutions, international development agencies and other stakeholders attended this event. The Forum participants developed recommendations regarding defining the concept of volunteering in the Macedonian context and possible activities that could be undertaken to improve the legal framework and promote volunteering. The event was organized under the Macedonia Civil Society Strengthening Project.
