Interview with ECNL’s Executive Director for Urduga.hr

The interview looks at how a new draft law may affect the Croatian nonprofit sector and its operations.

Udruga.hr, a leading Croatian newspaper for NGOs has recently made an interview with ECNL’s Executive Director, Ms Hadzi-Miceva Evans to discuss European trends in the legal framework for civil society and recent changes of the legislation affecting CSOs in Croatia. The interview was published in the May issue and can be accessed through www.urduga.hr.

In the beginning of this year the Croatian Government proposed a draft Law on Financial Operations and Accounting for Non-Profit Organizations. Among other provisions, the new Law would require all non-profit organization with annual revenue above HRK 230,00 (about 30,300 EUR) to register a company or any other business entity to engage in economic activity. Ms Hadzi-Miceva Evans discusses how this draft may affect the sector and its operations.

ECNL has been engaged in promoting CSO law reform in Croatia for more than 15 years and also provided expertise in the drafting of the revised Law on Associations which is pending adoption in the Parliament.
