Law on Volunteering adopted in Macedonia

05-07-2007
ECNL supported the Government and CSOs in developing the law and worked with partners to organize consultations with CSOs and other stakeholders.

The Macedonian Parlament enacted the Law on Volunteering. The law introduces a legal definition of volunteering, and thus distinguishes it from employment or other types of labor law relationships. It also prescribes the rights and obligations of volunteers, it determines and regulates the volunteering of foreigners. Importantly, it introduces exemptions from tax on reimbursements issued for volunteers.

ECNL activities to support the drafting of the law were conducted under the Civil Society Strengthening Project, implemented by the Institute for Sustainable Communities and funded by USAID/Macedonia.
