09-07-2007
ECNL delivered comments on the proposed amendments to the Law, and made recommendations to improve it based on international good practice standards.

On June 18, 2007, in cooperation with local partner "Eco-Tiras", ECNL co-sponsored a seminar inside Moldova's Parliament on proposed amendments to 1996 Law on Associations. The event was opened by the President of Parliament, Marian Lupu. Some 30 participants attended, including the deputy Minister of Justice, UNDP, and association representatives.

Participants discussed specific issues related to the definition of "association", registration procedures, permissible founders of an association, the rights of members, and dissolution procedures, among others. According to Mr. Lupu, the Parliament plans to finalize and adopt amendments to the Law by the end of July.

ECNL's work in Moldova is made possible through the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) project entitled Strengthening the Legal Framewok for Citizen Action, which extends through December 2008.
