On July 5th Serbian Parliament enacted the Law on Youth. Among others, the Law provides a framework for the so-called representative youth organizations to operate, as well as transparent mechanism of public funding for youth organizations.

Earlier we reported:

On May 12 the Government of Serbia approved the draft Law on Youth and sent it to Parliament for its consideration. This development marked the culmination of the Ministry of Youth and Sport's efforts to create a more enabling framework for youth organizations and represents yet another achievement in the Institute for Sustainable Communities/ECNL's overall efforts to create an enabling legal, fiscal and institutional environment for CSOs in Serbia. ECNL's Dragan Golubovic was the member of the working group, which the Ministry commissioned to prepare the draft Law. Among others, the draft Law sets out the principles of partnership between the Government and representative youth organizations, the framework for participation of young people in articulating public policies impacting on their status, and the mechanism of public funding of youth organizations, thus creating institutional conditions necessary for a more active participation of young people in public and social life.

ECNL's participation in this project was made possible thanks to the Institute for Sustainable Communities through Civil Society Advocacy Initiative, which is funded by USAID.
