On June 9, 2009, in collaboration with Civic Initiatives, Balkan Community Initiative Fund, the Economist Media Group and B-92, ECNL co-hosted a conference in Belgrade, which addressed the issue of an enabling tax framework for NGOs in Serbia.
The conference drew more than 80 participants, while the list of speakers included the Head of the Central Bank of Serbia, a representative of the Ministry of Finance, as well as host organizations. ECNL’s Dragan Golubovic presented at a conference a proposal for reforms of tax laws impacting on NGOs in Serbia, which he had authored. The proposal focuses on changes in the Corporate Income Tax Law, to expand the notion of qualifying public benefit activities.
ECNL’s engagement in the conference was made possible through a USAID-funded project carried by the Institute for Sustainable Communities: “Civil Society Advocacy Initiative”.
